Shakespeare in Love

Summit High School Theatre Department presents Lee Hall’s stage adaptation of Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard’s highly acclaimed Academy Award-winning screenplay, Shakespeare in Love. Young Will Shakespeare has a bad case of writer’s block and desperately needs a muse. His new comedy, Romeo and Ethel the Pirate’s Daughter, is less than inspired and he’s running out of time to deliver his next masterpiece. Viola de Lesseps is a lady willing to do anything to get her chance to perform on the stage, a place prohibited to women, even if it means disguising herself as a man. When Will and Viola’s paths cross, their forbidden love inspires one of Shakespeare’s greatest masterpieces - considered the most romantic tragedy ever written. This smart and poignant comedy reimagines the romance between the writer and his muse while providing a smattering of allusions that will delight both fans and foes of the Bard.

All seating is GENERAL ADMISSION (no assigned seating). Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain and performances are at the Summit High School Auditorium: 2855 NW Clearwater Drive. The run time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including a 15 minute intermission and recommended for mature middle schoolers and up. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students (18 and under) and senior citizens (65 and older).
